Election 2025 - change of WNC administration
This company always has been and always will be politically neutral and as such, seldom comments on matters of politics, and on the rare occasion that it does so comment, confines itself to matters affecting public transport only. however, we are changing our own protocol on this occasion to celebrate the outgoing of certain elements of the outgoing administration.
There have undoubtedly been a number of good and productive Councillors, from both the administration and its opposition, who have been voted from office this week due to no fault of their own and largely a reflection of their National counterparts in Westminster. However, we shall shed no tears for many within the ruling executive and especially those involved with Highways and transport who have only themselves to blame for their deselection. Our Managing Director would like to apologise to anyone within a nine mile radius who might have been deafened by the cheering at about 8.30PM when the portfolio holder for transport was announced as losing his seat.
To our regular passengers, bus enthusiasts, trade press and those who follow us generally, you will all know that 2024 was a particulary difficult year for us that ultimately saw us stop trading for three months. At the very least this was an indirect consequence of the actions of certain Councillors within the outgoing administration and at the very worst, could be a direct result. We shall probably never know as FOI requests seem to be incomplete. With the information we have already we could probably take legal action and at least one ex Councillor would not have a leg to stand on. We have been very fortunate that our passengers were understanding and supportive, quickly returning to us especially when they learned what had been inflicted upon us. The events leading up to this suspension of services also damaged our standing with other local authorities and we are going to work harder to restore our standing with them too.
We do not wish to waste any more time thinking about those who are now longer able to abuse nor threaten this company. We look forward to working with the new administration and we are sure they will draw their own conclusions on their predecessors, the officials they have inherited and the work that the private sector does in transporting people within the town and county.
For our passengers and other interested groups, we would like to assure you that we now feel empowered to once again invest in our business, to build upon what we are operating both in terms of quality and quantity. These will be small, incremental steps, but they will be starting shortly.

Media notes
Britannia Bus is a small, independent bus operator based in Northampton. It has been operating buses, including our flagship 31, since 2006 and has a commitment to low fares, professional and friendly service. We are very much a free-enterprise type of company inasmuch as we do not seek taxpayer subsidy and believe that bus services can be operated for the benefit of the public and still be profitable. Our fares remain below the £2.50 average and we do this by filling our buses and not filling our pockets with government handouts. We are not part of the Government bus far cap scheme.
